Dear Colleagues,

While school doesn’t officially start until next week, our first cohort of international students through INTO arrived earlier this week and our newest freshman class will start moving on campus over the next couple of days. Once again, we anticipate this will be the largest entering class in CSU history — with further gains in terms of University diversity and overall academic qualification.

But as we know, even the most well-prepared college students arrive here for the first time with a lot of questions and a certain amount of trepidation about whether they’ve made the right choice in CSU.

I want to thank all of you who help to ease that transition for our students and their families every year, whether hauling boxes at Move-In, offering directions to people who look lost, or through your participation in Preview and Ram Welcome activities. I hear frequently from parents — particularly those who have students at other campuses — about what an exceptional job the CSU community does in this regard, and I know this doesn’t happen by accident. We do a great job because thousands of our faculty and staff members commit themselves to making that transition as seamless as possible so our students can start class next week with the confidence and comfort level that set the stage for their academic success.

One of the hallmarks of our Ram Welcome weekend is the Thursday evening convocation. We have so many new students joining us this year that they now completely fill Moby Arena, so we’ll be live-streaming the ceremony for parents and others who want to participate. If you’re interested, you can also get a first look at our newest group of students and view the convocation live online at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday.

Thanks again to all of you who are working so hard to make these events successful and get our year off to a great start.

P.S. I think the Cubs are pretty well-positioned for a mid-summer run, no?
