As we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day this weekend, we turn our thoughts to all those who have served our country for generations – our relatives, friends, and neighbors. We thank them for their service and sacrifice. We admire their selfless dedication to this country. We honor their courage.

Our campus is home to thousands of people who have served in uniform — students, faculty, and staff. Their contributions to our community have driven CSU to become one of the best public universities in the nation for providing educational opportunities for veterans and their families. Students and employees with military experience bring unique and valued perspectives, experience, and insight to our campus community, and we are committed to their success.

I encourage all members of our community to join tomorrow (Friday) with CSU’s Student Veteran Organization and ROTC cadets in the Sutherland Garden on the west side of the Lory Student Center, as they participate in the National Roll Call and read aloud the names of the nearly 7,000 U.S. service members who have died serving our nation since Sept. 11, 2001. You are invited to take a turn reading names of those lost, or you can plant a small U.S. flag in honor of a veteran who holds special meaning to you. The Roll Call will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the posting of the colors, names will be read throughout the day, and the ceremony will conclude at 5:30 p.m. when the colors will be retired. I hope you will have an opportunity to stop by and participate in whatever way is most meaningful for you.

And to our veterans: Again, thank you.
