Paying for college can be a challenge for many students and their families. As families have to pay more of the costs of a college education than ever before, and as state funding declines, the direct costs which families pay have continued to climb.

In a new video produced by Colorado State University, an artist joins CSU President Tony Frank to help explain how the university balances tuition and state funding to cover the cost of education — and exactly where those tuition dollars go. Understanding why tuition costs what it does is important to understanding the value of investing in a college education.

Dr. Frank and artist Karina Mullen, who is also a CSU graduate, explain the costs covered by tuition and fees for Colorado residents, the financial contribution made by the state of Colorado, and the return on investment which the typical student may see.
